Slingerland Structured Reading Workshop

Teaching students to read well requires careful planning for effective structured reading. This highly engaging workshop is broken into two days:

• Day 1: Participants will first review the Slingerland® Approach to Preparation for Reading and Reading from the Book. Then, they will practice breaking down passages into functional phrases and writing high-quality clues and prompts based on those phrases and passages.

• Day 2: Participants will return with their own passages to prepare for prep for reading and structured reading. Working in small groups, participants will develop a shared library of passages appropriately structured for students at multiple levels.

Workshop Requirements

Participants should be familiar with the Slingerland® Approach to Preparation for Reading and Reading from the Book by either having completed a Comprehensive class or Reading Short Class.

This class is not recommended for those who have never had training in the Slingerland® Approach.

All Slingerland Structured Reading Workshops are led by a Certified Slingerland Instructor of Teachers (CSIT). In some cases, Intern Instructors who meet Slingerland Literacy Institute’s internal requirements may take on teaching responsibilities under the guidance of a CSIT as part of their training.
