NEW!! Register for the ONLINE Slingerland Techniques for Reading Skills class. The Class focuses on teaching techniques and background knowledge related to the Slingerland® Approach. Techniques for teaching the skills of decoding, reading in meaningful phrases, vocabulary, reading with comprehension, and higher-level critical thinking skills are included. This 20-hour class will provide rationales, demonstration, and practice of teaching techniques for phonics, decoding, reading in meaningful phrases, and reading with comprehension.
In this class:
- IDENTIFY indicators of reading problems and characteristics of reading disabilities
- Help children READ with more confidence and skill
- Increase word attack, reading comprehension and identification SCORES
- Feel confident about the child’s PROGRESS in reading, writing and spelling
Presented over two weeks, this class is scheduled for Monday-Friday, April 12-16 and April 28-30. Class starts at 4:00 pm (PDT) and ends at 6:15 pm (PDT) daily. You must attend all sessions to satisfactorily complete the class.
Partial Scholarships are available. Through a Boon-Donor-Funded Scholarships grant, we are pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships for the Techniques for Teaching Reading Skills classes. Techniques for Teaching Reading Skills/Building Better Reading Skills
Rationale and teaching techniques for phonics, decoding, phrase reading and reading with comprehension and analysis. Twenty hours of class time. Minimum enrollment of ten.
Class Content
- Development of an integrated lesson plan using current curriculum materials
- Practice with the Slingerland® multisensory techniques
- Current reading research findings
- Instructional strategies that will increase comprehension and fluency skills
- The study of the organization of the English language
- A systematic structure for decoding and vocabulary development
