The Institute is proud to partner with schools and educational organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to the Slingerland® Approach to Language Arts and its implementation in their educational program.

Below is a list of current Strategic Partners:

How to become a Strategic Partner:

The Slingerland Strategic Partnership status is open to public schools, independent schools, and school districts that meet the criteria listed below.

Partner Responsibilities:

• The Partner Site will maintain current organizational membership with the Slingerland® Institute for Literacy.

• The Partner Site will ensure that all classes that use the Slingerland® Approach consistently implement the complete Slingerland format.

• The Partner Site will ensure that all teachers who provide Slingerland instruction to students have satisfactorily completed no less than the Slingerland® Approach Comprehensive Teacher Training Course, year 1.

• The Partner Site will provide paid on-site supervision of the Slingerland program by a Slingerland® Institute for Literacy certified director with a minimum of two years of director experience. This may be a full or part time staff position, or the school may contract with the SIL for a qualified supervisor.

• The Partner Site will provide a paid Slingerland on-site supervisor organizes and implements annual Slingerland staff development for teachers trained in the Slingerland® Approach which emphasizes the use of the Approach to meet the literacy needs (oral language, written communication, and reading development) of students in general education Slingerland classes and those who require more intensive Slingerland literacy support.

• The Partner Site will make Slingerland classrooms available for observation by appointment throughout the academic year for educators and parents who would like to view an operating Slingerland program.

• The Partner Site will make Slingerland mentor teachers at the school available periodically to host teachers-in-training for a final, integrated practicum module for teachers who have completed all other individual Slingerland format modules.

• The Partner Site will offer a Slingerland® Approach Comprehensive Teacher Training course (years 1 and/or 2, 3) on site at least once every two years, and third year training will be offered at least once every three years.

• The Partner Site will seek approval from SIL of the content and presenters of any onsite Slingerland® Approach workshops of 1-4 hours for Slingerland teachers and other guests. The advertising flyer and attendee contact information will be shared with SIL.

• The Partner Site Director or other designee from the Partner Site will participate in the annual Slingerland Directors’ Meetings.

• The Partner Site will host by pre arrangement periodic on-site visitations will be arranged by a designee of the Slingerland® Institute to verify the Slingerland program as described in the annual Self-Verification of Slingerland Program Quality Assurance report submitted by site.

• The Partner Site will annually authorize, by recorded action of the school board and/or administration, or provide a copy of the appropriate section of the site’s budget which reflects the board’s support for the Slingerland program.

• The Partner Site administrator will submit annually a “Self-Verification of Slingerland Program Quality Assurance.”

• The Partner Site will follow the guidelines for use of the Slingerland trademark in advertising its programs (website, school brochure, phonebook listing, etc.).

• The Partner Site will maintain a live link to the Slingerland® Institute website.

Slingerland® Institute for Literacy Responsibilities:

• Feature partner news on a designated page in the SIL website.

• Provide all benefits due an organizational member including a live link on the website.

• Provide guidelines for use the use of the Slingerland trademark and approve the use of the trademark for the Partner Site to use in their advertising and marketing.

• Report current news from the Slingerland® Institute Partner Site in SIL newsletters.

• Approve the content and presenters for any on-site Slingerland® Approach workshops of 1-4 hours for Slingerland teachers and for other guests. All proceeds of the training will remain with the partner site. The advertising flyer and attendee contact information will be shared with SIL.

• Provide professional development for the Slingerland® Institute Partner Site program director at the annual Spring Director’s meeting.
